The White Eagle – Roald Amundsen Sailor of the Skies
The White Eagle is a journey of discovery in words and images through the life of polar
explorer Roald Amundsen. The book follows him from the classic polar expeditions by ship,
dog sled and ski into a new era in which aeroplanes and airships became the dominant
means of exploration. In 1926, together with Umberto Nobile and Lincoln Ellsworth, he led
the expedition aboard the airship Norge, which crossed the North Pole from Svalbard to
Alaska. This was the first expedition to reach the North Pole with certainty.
