ESPINA is a Photobook made during an Artistic Residency in Valparaíso, Chile. (May 2024)
This publication portrays the street, focusing on fences as a tense limitation between what’s private and public. Observing how walls and barbed wire merge with local spiked vegetation, I reflect on how aggressive aspects of these barriers have a unique beauty that provokes nostalgia and positive emotional responses in me.

Elisa Halvorsen Castillo

Elisa Halvorsen Castillo (b. 1990) is a Chilean artist with Norwegian ancestry based in Oslo. Working with analog experimental techniques and self-published artists’ books, Elisa explores the concept of memory and its plasticity, a subject that interests her since she experienced short-term memory loss due to a period of illness in her mid 20s. Mixing analog photography processes with printmaking techniques, her work intends to break the walls between both practices.
