«Sunraiser» is a delicate and hopeful track released in support of our 2024 Sunraising campaign, launched to rebuild our printshop. The record was initially included as a perk for folks who donated, but now we’re sharing it far and wide. The tune was tracked in the summer of 2021 in our Rockwell studio, just a few months before packing up shop. Captured in a single take, the song is a reminder that building momentum takes a balance of rhythm and open-ended improvisation.

Sonnenzimmer is the collaborative practice of artists Nick Butcher & Nadine Nakanishi. We began working together in the early 2000’s combining our love for visual art, typography, graphic design, printmaking, and music in the form of screen printed concert posters. Supported by Chicago’s thriving improvised music community, we developed an experimental approach to graphic expression that tested the limits of abstraction, legibility, communication, and the medium of print.
